It is the second time this year an unexplained bang has been heard in the area after residents living in Irlam, Pendleton and Swinton heard the noise on Wednesday night.
A mysterious loud bang shook houses and terrified residents in Salford on Wednesday evening. The loud noise was reportedly heard by residents living in Irlam, Pendleton and Swinton at 11pm on February 9 Greater Manchester Police and the fire service said they were not called to any incidents in the area and are unable to confirm what caused the explosive noise. It is the second time this year an unexplained bang has been heard in the area.
Last month scores of people in Salford, Trafford, Chorlton and Sale said they heard a loud bang and saw a plume of smoke coming from Buile Hill Park. The cause of the noise remained unexplained, despite a police investigation. It appears the loud bang last night was only heard in the Salford area. Dozens of social media users shared posts speculating on what could have caused the noise. Kieran Shiach tweeted: “There was a massive bang/explosion in Salford. No idea what it was but peering out the window I got to see all our neighbours doing the same.”
Melissa Jayne wrote: “Did anyone hear the big explosion on Salford about an hour ago? The house shook. “Has no one heard this explosion tonight 11pm Salford Pendleton area it shook the house?” Another Twitter user posted an image from Irlam and wrote: “All quiet over The Height. No clues as to the mystery #explosion in #salford.” Gemma Coussons tweeted: “Right own up, who knows what that explosion was!?!? #salford #swinton #Manchester.” Gilly Walsh posted: “Massive bang / explosion #salford any clues? Was quite shocking.”
